Open Access
Annali di Igiene offers Authors the opportunity to make their articles freely available to the wider public, as it follows an Open Access Policy.
Availability means that everybody is allowed to open and read all the articles on the screen, but not to print them. The Author who wants a PDF to produce copies is welcome to buy it from the Publisher (the cost is indicated in Cost of Publication).
It is also possible for the Author to buy a “full open access”, which allows everybody to unload and print the article (the cost is indicated in Cost of Publication).
ePub Ahead of Print
In addition to the traditional flow-chart – from the preparation of a paper to its final publication – which has been described in the Instruction for authors, a new possibility is now offered to the Authors: to have their paper e-published in advance of the inclusion in a regular issue of Annali di Igiene.
It is possible for the Corresponding Author of any paper submitted to the Managing Editor to request the “e-pub ahead of print” option once the paper has been finally approved, accepting to pay for that additional service (the cost is indicated in the Costs of Publication). As a consequence, after receiving the final approval by the Editor in Chief, the paper is given the DOI, paginated and put online in a subsite of Ann Ig, where it will remain until the bimonthly issue of destination will be published. The Corresponding Author will be notified about that issue. Because the “e-pub ahead of print” fee includes also the “full open access” cost, the paper will be unloadable and printable since the moment it has been e-published and, obviously, also in the final version.
Papers published online head of print are called “e-pubs ahead of print” or “early view articles“. They will report the dates of when received, accepted and e-published. In addition will report the DOI and the name of the Journal, but not the numbers of volume, issue and pages. Their quotation will be as follows (an example from Ann Ig):

At the moment of being transferred to the regular issue (eg: 5/2021), the papers will be added volume, year, issue, pages and the indication of the previous e-pub status. Their quotation will be as follows (same example from Ann Ig):

The “e-pub ahead of print” will be activated only after the Publisher has received the payment.
Languages (usage and editing services)
Please write your text in good English (American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of these).
For specific manuscripts of regional interest italian language may be accepted.
Use of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI or doi)
The Digital Object Identifier (DOI or doi) may be used to cite and link to electronic documents.
The DOI consists of a unique alpha-numeric character string which is assigned to a document by the publisher upon the initial electronic publication.
The assigned DOI never changes. Therefore, it is an ideal medium for citing a document, particularly ‘Articles in press’ and ‘e-pubs ahead of print’, because they have not yet received their full bibliographic information.
Example of a correctly given DOI (in URL format; here an article in the journal Annali di Igiene: doi: 10.7416/ai.2015.2033. When you use a DOI to create links to documents on the web, the DOIs are guaranteed never to change.
Cost of publication
For original research, review articles, short articles, celebrations of public health lives, and letters to the editor:
“Open Access” cost: € 200.00 including VAT
“Epub ahead of print” cost (also includes “Open Access” cost): € 400.00 VAT included
If a “letter to the Director” contains only comments on a paper published in Ann Ig, and does not exceed 3,500 characters, there is a flat fee of € 100.00 VAT included, including both Open Access and Epub ahead of print.
